The articles are written in the expository style of writing using facts and figures that offer insights on various topics. Many come to life by welcoming subject matter experts to our "LifeWriting.com Conversations"!

"It's Time to Start One or Get Back to One!"

The beginning of the year is an ideal time to start a new hobby or circle back to an old one you may have drifted away from. Hobbies are beneficial for several reasons. They tend to offer an escape…that invaluable time to decompress from the ills and stressors life may present. Hobbies don’t have to be over-the-top tasks or events. Many people simply gravitate to an activity that brings them joy…akin to things they are most passionate about.  Some popular hobbies are writing creatively, gardening, cooking, fishing, or even taking exercise classes...they all help to elevate your overall wellness.

The health benefits are unmatched, especially when you engage in them regularly. For instance, hobbies tend to relieve stress and anxiety, stimulate your mind, or even allow you to express yourself…depending on the activity. Lastly, hobbies can be monetized. There’s nothing quite like transforming one into a business venture that you thoroughly enjoy while getting compensated for it. What are you waiting for, start a new one or get back to a former one; so much more life is awaiting you!

Today is life - the only life you are sure of. Make the most of today. Get interested in something. Shake yourself awake. Develop a hobby. Let the winds of enthusiasm sweep through you. Live today with gusto." -Dale Carnegie

Narratives

The narratives are short stories based upon real experiences. The art of imagery is maximized to keep the readers’ attention while sharing memorable stories. In fact, some turn into "LifeWriting.com Conversations"!

"Brothers, We Are!!"

Pictured from left to right: Jeffrey Hatcher, Cornelius Gibson, Chris Jones, James Waltower, Chris A

We grew up along the Savannah River in a rural part of Georgia where God and family comes first…followed closely by sports, namely football! Spirituality is engrained in your being, so when you find other people with that type of celestial energy, the poles attract. The attractions lead to worlds of positivity and develop into lifelong friendships. As I think of this phenomenon in particular, my Brothers come to mind, and for those who really know me, you know I am referring to my best friends. These friends continue to help guide me spiritually, physically, and mentally, through life’s highs and lows…the good, the bad, and the ugly. God has certainly ordained their presence in my life, whether they are there for me physically or emotionally, in ANY time of need. I have been blessed with several of them; allow me to share some more things about these Brothers.

Most of them were raised by some strong single Mothers, just as I was. In addition, we were surrounded by a host of family that imparted wisdom and positively impacted our value systems in countless ways. Many of our relationships began because key family members of ours knew one another through work or play. My Brothers and I attended church and school together, biked throughout the town, and at times, ventured into places like Nature Park, performing the most daring of stunts. I often think back to where we went, and what we did while there, and immediately believe we were crazier than all-get-out 😅 to have pulled off some of the stuff we did…but oh well, that is what a group of fearless young boys do!

We participated on football, basketball, and track teams on recreational and organized school levels. By the grace of God, we played significant roles in several championships/titles won by those teams. In the midst of this, some of us worked throughout the summers as Playlot Coordinators. This was another element of our upbringing that offered some memorable moments. Additional memories will be shared later via other mediums. I am sitting here laughing just thinking about them! We hung out at places like the Huddle House, the local Hardees as well as a few others to share laughs and break bread. However, NO hangout spot was quite like Ms. Griffin’s home on the hill of the Pecan Orchard. Books and movies can be produced regarding the things that transpired while there. God-willing, we will produce them someday soon 😊…stay tuned.

Today, we are Husbands, Fathers, Coaches, Activists, among a wealth of other titles. We are partly charged with recreating the same type of safe environment for our kids in hopes they will become productive citizens while advancing mankind in some capacity. I am truly blessed to say, “Brothers, we are!!”

I shed tears through lyric and verse.

The waiting room of faith

is inside the gauntlet of life.

Where the only thing that’s promised is death.

Fools fall for love,

saints go from glory to glory,

most live from breath to breath.

I don’t need a mansion.

Give me a beautiful angel

and a secluded cabin in the sky.

Life means everything,

not when you win or lose,

but when you realize you are going to die.

I am not unaccustomed to evil.

I fall to temptation.

Sometimes I am in tune with my spirit,

other times I move in my flesh.

I try hard to do right,

many times I get it wrong.

I come back harder after every failed test.

I pray for protection.

I pray for peace.

I pray for victory,

when it is time for war.

I have set my boundaries.

I will relent when my nets are full.

Humility and hard work,

drive my hunger for more.

"DREAMS"

"What it Is"

"What it Is"

Dreaming is nice,

Dreaming is fun,

But when it’s time to wake up,

Where do dreams go?,

Do they live?,

Do they die?.

Dreams die all the time,

Every minute,

Of every day,

Dreams are stolen,

Left without a trace.

The large wrinkled surface flows with the wind's fluctuate direction as freely as your mother's silk skirt.

I can see your small sphere of dimming light, flashing, and struggling for an opening but constantly being denied by the clouds that follow the wind's blow.

With strength and the path set by your rays (raise), the clouds soon find it impossible to contain your light; and the small sphere is seen growing, beaming, and reflecting on the large wrinkled surface.

But wait!  I see that your mark has begun fading and the surface now reflects darkness from the overcast that scars your impression, not allowing your light to shine.

All of this will indeed happen my friend, but know that I will aid in your struggle because the warmth in my heart provided by your light remains constant regardless of the clouds that may glide over my son's day.
